Teaching young airmen to fly is challenging in any setting.
Instructors must overcome their students’ inexperience, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, particularly, in the case of Vance Air Force Base, in northwest Oklahoma’s often blustery winds.
But the challenges five Vance instructors have faced here are nothing compared to the obstacles confronting them during their year-long deployment to Iraq.
