Lt. Col. Andre Johnson, an Air Force reservist assigned as a T-38 Talon instructor pilot to the 5th Flying Training Squadron at Vance Air Force Base, competed at the National Masters Weightlifting Championship held in Savannah, Ga., April 4-6. He made six of six attempts and received the bronze medal for his age group 45-49 and weight group of 231 pounds. This made him eligible to compete in the Pan American Masters Championship in San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 11-13. Johnson has been lifting weights since he was 15 years old, and was a member of the winning U.S. team that competed against the Canadians in 1979. He qualified for the 1980 Olympic tryouts, which were canceled due to a U.S. boycott of the games in Moscow that summer. (Courtesy photo)
