Several years ago, Ralph Baker’s family was engaging him in conversation about a subject he preferred to avoid — his service during World War II.
Like many of his fellow war veterans, Baker preferred to leave the past in the past.
But during the discussion his young grandson, Robert Baker, asked him “Grandfather, are you a hero?”
Baker’s reply? “No, I am not a hero, I was just doing my job.”
