The people serving, living and working at Vance Air Force Base know what it takes to turn out the world’s finest military pilots at the rate of some 400 per year.
But how many people downtown, members of the general public, know what the student pilots at Vance go through in their quest to earn their wings?
Beginning this week, PEGASYS offers an inside look at Vance’s primary mission when it begins airing an hour-long documentary, “54 Weeks: A Story of Pilot Training at Vance,” on Suddenlink cable television channel 12.

Engine failure, compounded by pilot error, was determined to be the cause of a T-6 accident earlier this year at Vance Air Force Base, according to a report released recently by the Air Force.
The accident, which took place June 4, resulted in minor injuries to one of the pilots and damage to the aircraft’s left wing, landing gear and propeller estimated at $831.631, which ranks it as a Class B mishap, meaning it involved damage of more than $200,000 but less than $1 million.
