An army, the saying goes, travels on its stomach.
The young campers taking part in the 35th annual Camp Tomahawk, co-sponsored by Vance Air Force Base and the Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce, are no army, but their stomachs are important to them nonetheless.
Hence the emphasis at this year’s camp on healthy cooking and eating.
Camp Tomahawk is for children ages 9-12 who might not otherwise have an opportunity to go to camp.
Nine boys took part in camp last week, while 10 girls enter their final day of camp today.
For all of this year’s campers, the emphasis has been on cooking and eating food that is fun, nutritious and appealing to young taste buds.
“My train of thought coming into it was looking at what kids like to eat and trying to come up with something that was a healthier version of it,” said Senior Airman Stephen McClellan, a Camp Tomahawk volunteer. read more...
