Traffic on the North Van Buren overpass will be affected Monday as new bridge beams are installed.

According to Travis Rose, vice president of operations for contractor Bridges Inc., installation of the expansive and heavy beams will require the temporary closure of the northbound lane on Van Buren, according to a city of Enid news release.

"Workers will be flagging traffic for 15-minute intervals as we set beams in place," Rose said.

Large cranes are stationed at the bridge, and placement of the new beams will start approximately 1 p.m. Monday. Rose said the work with the new beams should be completed by 5 p.m.

Chris Gdanski, city of Enid engineering director, said "getting these beams in place is a great step forward for the project. This is a good indication progress is being made despite the recent heavy rains."
