Specialized Under­grad­uate Pilot Training classes 19-17 and 19-18 presented awards to 12 junior officers during a combined graduation ceremony for the two classes last Friday, June 28.

Class 19-17

T-1 Track

In the T-1 track, Class 19-17 presented six awards to three graduating officers.

2nd Lt. Brandyn Kauf­man took the lion’s share of the awards, taking home the Academic Award, Flying Training Award, Distinguished Graduate and AETC Commander’s Trophy. Kaufman is slated to fly the C-17. 2nd Lt. Matthew Kelly was presented the General Risner Award, and also will be flying the C-17. Capt. Walter Brim won the Leadership Award, and will be moving on to fly the KC-135.

T-38 Track

Two officers took home all six of Class 19-17’s awards in the T-38 track.

2nd Lt. Alexander Manning took home four of those awards: the Leadership Award, Flying Training Award, Distinguished Grad­uate and AETC Comm­ander’s Trophy. Manning is scheduled to continue training to fly the F-16. 2nd Lt. Alexander Thennes was presented the Academic Award and General Risner Award, and will go moving on to fly the F-15E.

Class 19-18

T-1 Track

Six awards were presented to four officers in Class 19-18’s T-1 track.

2nd Lt. Timothy Schwanke, who will be a T-1 First Assignment Instructor Pilot (FAIP), took home three awards: the Leadership Award, Distinguished Grad­uate and AETC Commander’s Trophy. 2nd Lt. Nicholas Johnson, who will be flying the C-17, won the Academic Award.The Flying Training Award went to 2nd Lt. Zac­hary Lilly, who is slated to fly the EC-130J. 2nd Lt. Mark Newberry won the General Risner Award, and will be moving on to fly the C-17.

T-38 Track

Three officers took home six awards in Class 19-18’s T-38 track.

2nd Lt. Jack Alexander took home half those awards, winning the Flying Training Award, Distinguished Grad­uate and AETC Commander’s Trophy. Alexander is slated to serve as a FAIP in the T-6. 2nd Lt. Alexander Chase, who will be flying the B-52, won the Academic Award and Leadership Award. The General Risner Award was presented to 2nd Lt. Daniel Abner, who is slated to fly the F-16.
