The 32nd Annual United Way Chili Cook-Off, presented by Stride Bank, will be held at the Stride Bank Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, with the theme of “The Wonderful World of Chili.”

Tickets still are available to the event, which boasts a full slate of 53 competitors.

“The Stride Event Center is a perfect location for this event. It allows for ample parking, adequate space for all our vendors, and plenty of seating for our United Way friends,“ said Dan Schiedel, executive director of United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma. “We will have 53 amazingly decorated booths, a wide array of door prizes and tasty chili from a variety of exceptional cooks.”

Tickets — which include a drink, chili and dessert — are $7 and may be purchased in advance from the United Way office or the day of the event at the door. Chili entries will compete in four categories: Judge’s Chili Choice, Best Booth Decorated, Top Dollar Chili and People’s Chili Choice. Tasting begins at 11 a.m.

The theme, “The Wonderful World of Chili” is a new creation by the event committee, Schiedel said. The committee is expecting to see contestants decked out in classic and new character costumes with booths decorated in Disney themes. “Our chili competitors are extremely imaginative and I’m sure will amaze us with their creativity — which lends for a fun-filled event,” Schiedel said.

All funds raised benefit the 15 partner agencies of United Way, along with discretionary giving designations.

“The United Way Board of Directors, along with the campaign team, led by Seth and Kristy Skidmore, is also excited about the 2019-2020 campaign,” Schiedel said. “The Chili Cook-Off is the last fundraising event in the year for our agencies and the campaign. Last year’s event raised nearly $20,000. We anticipate this year will be another great success.”

The 15 United Way partner agencies are: Booker T. Washington Center, Cimarron Council Boy Scouts of America, American Red Cross serving NW Oklahoma, Community Development Support Association, Catholic Charities, Denny Price Family YMCA, Garfield County Child Advocacy Council, Hedges Speech and Hearing, Human Services Alliance of Greater Enid, Loaves and Fishes of NW Oklahoma, Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma, RSVP, The Salvation Army, YWCA of Enid, and Youth and Family Services.

Tickets are available at the United Way office at 401 W. Broadway, Suite 223, in Great Plains Bank, or by calling (580) 237-0821 or emailing Carolina Seymour at car olina@unitedwayenid.org.
